LSAT, law school, and more
Thursday is my worst day. I have class from 8am to 9pm, with one two hour break between four and six. It sucks bad. Well, usually it does. Today, however, I did not attend one single solitary class. And I'm feeling pretty good about it.
When I first started college my mom would always get pissed when I wouldn't go to class (I still don't know how she ever knew that I didn't go) and would wonder why pay for class if you don't go. She had a point, but, mine is better. You don't pay for the class, you pay for the damn credit- and if you don't need to go to class- then why go? There are classes where you have to go every day (otherwise known as graduate school), but really.. there was no point to going to class today. I was feeling pretty sick in the morning- but, I could have handled it. I turned in two papers by email, and I was fine.
Anyway, life is good for me. I've never really blogged before (at least talking about myself), but I'm going to treat it as a sort of journal. The good news for me this week is that I got admitted into the U's law school! I am pumped that I will only have to pay 10k a year for law school. For those that don't know, I did pretty crappy on the LSAT- especially the first time I took it. I got a 147. I blame it only on myself and that it was stupid to take a test like that when you are working a lot and going to school. STUPID ME. At least that's how I felt for quite a while after I took the test. However, after much encouragement I took the damnedest of all tests again in December and scored 154. Not that great- but a HELL of a lot better then a 147. I hate that test. It doesn't test any knowledge that you have or how you perform academically- or in real life. Its just a test of logical intuitiveness that means nothing. My brothers both did well in school and did crappy on the LSAT. My brother Shawn scored a 150 and only got into ONE small school in Seattle (Seattle University). He had a 3.9, but still got into just one school. But, he did really well, transferred to the U after one year and got a sweet job with one of the best firms in the country in NYC. So, scoring crappy on the LSAT runs in the fam and at least my brothers showed me that it didn't matter. Basically, I felt bad because I know that I am better then what that test indicates. But, maybe I needed to get that score. I don't know. At least I thought that I would get in SOMEWHERE. I have a really good GPA and a very good resume. I also write okay, and thought that if they could just read my personal statement, everything would be fine. Anyhow- the first school I got into was Barry University (in Orlando), which just barely got accredited by the ABA in December. They offered half-tuition, which was good, and I was grateful to get in. But, I was still hoping on a first tier school, but I was pretty sure i wouldn't get in. Then on last Tuesday as I am getting out of Levin's class- I got a call from the dean of admissions at the U's law school saying that I got in. I couldn't believe it! I'm stoked and it made my week. At least its a sign that law schools do look at more then just the LSAT.
I really have to pee now, but I've been keeping a list of quotes from a certain poli-sci professor... He really is one of the best professors I've ever had.
"Now, moving past obscure religious jokes..."
"I don't know about flag desecration, but flag swimsuits are just a crime. Flag speedos are a crime against so many things"
"I believe that children are our future"- in melody
"Never argue with an idiot- people will not be able to see the difference."
"And then you get into the deeper metaphysical properties of strippers on the radio"
"At the COPA... COPA cabana..." (copa = child online protection act)
"The fewer the treasure, the fewer the thieves"
"The public official is a contestant in the javelin catch"
"If I call a press conference, nobody will come. Except my dog. And only if I bring biscuits"
"There is no 100% truth in politics- except when I talk, I'm always right. Just kidding. I'm wrong sometimes... not too often though."
More to come
